Light in the Darkness
Yesterday mid-morning I hit the road to Colorado. By the time I reached Channing TX it was getting dark and I witnessed Christmas decorations of the west Texas farming community type: Christmas lights on Tractors, Plows, Combines and other equipment that I could not make out, but they were all done nicely and stood out from a distance in the rural west Texas night sky. The thing about Christmas lights they always stand out, noticed by all who see!
John 1:5 tells us: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” God’s Word tells us that “Light” represents God and His goodness, while darkness represents evil and sin, thus the verse above signifies that even in the midst of darkness, God’s light prevails and cannot be extinguished. John 1:9 “The true light, which gives light to everyone…”.
Matthew 5:14-16 challenges you and me: “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
For those of us who have put our trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin we are lights in this world! This light at it’s source is God’s Spirit living in us and that my friend is a light that stands out (like Christmas lights) and cannot, not be seen! As Matthew states: "Let your light shine before all men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Your light has the ability to influence and make an eternal difference with those on your team, at your work place, neighbors as well as those that serve you at a restaurant, those behind the checkout counter, the mechanic that repairs your vehicle, etc.
Be the Light!
